That was fast! Days after Jessica Chastain announced she would no longer be playing a "sexy scientist" in Marvel Studios and Disney's Iron Man 3, The Town's Rebecca Hall swooped in to save the day.
British actress Hall, 29, is currently in talks to replace Chastain, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Both Robert Downey Jr., 47, and Gwyneth Paltrow, 39, will reprise their roles from the wildly successful Iron Man and Iron Man 2 movies.
Chastain, 31, announced she was bowing out of the project Sunday. "Sorry to say that Iron Man 3 isn't going to work out. My schedule is jam-packed and I can't fit anything else in. The press announced my possible attachment far too soon," the Oscar-nominated actress explained via Facebook.
"I know many of you wanted me to be involved, and I'm so sorry to disappoint you," added Chastain, who starred in seven movies in 2011. "Hopefully there'll be another Marvel film in my future. Shane Black and everyone on the Iron Man 3 team are really wonderful. I'm very excited to see the film when it comes out."
Downey and Paltrow, 39 recently reprised their roles in The Avengers, which earned more than $700 million worldwide in less than two weeks. On Tuesday, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced there will be a sequel to the film, starring Downey, Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and Tom Hiddleston.
