An insecure greeting-card writer (an excellent Joseph Gordon-Levitt) falls for a sharp-witted colleague (an equally captivating Zooey Deschanel) in this indie hit. Besides unusual characters and insightful dialogue, the dramedy has a cool gimmick: It toggles back and forth in time, jumping randomly among 500 days in the relationship. The movie will make you burst out laughing -- and it will also break your heart. (Fox Searchlight, $30)
