Coldplay always manages to make melancholia sound so magnificent. The Brit quartet's stately fifth CD finds it again pondering dark, complex emotions, but overall its sound is brighter and more effervescent than ever. ("Hurts Like Heaven" is downright sprightly!) And the fellas hit a high when they reel in Rihanna for the sparkling track "Princess of China." (Capitol)
