Us rating: **

In this remake -- a monstroushit that earned $177 million -- Detroit tween Dre (Jaden Smith) moves to China with his mother (Taraji P. Henson), gets tormented and then learns self-defense from a local master (Jackie Chan). Will Smith's son is all right as an actor, flexing his little muscles and tearing up repeatedly, but the predicable story is basically just a series of slow-moving scenes punctuated by bursts of action. Should it really take more than two hours to get to the final, frenzied tournament? (Sony Pictures, $29)
