When it rains, it pours, and on the Wednesday, July 13, episode of The Real Housewives of New York City, pretty much everyone got soaked. Things picked up right where they’d left off, with Luann de Lesseps blathering about how in love she was and demanding to know why the other women refused to be happy for her.
After Lu stormed out in a huff, it looked like the evening might actually settle down and turn out OK … until Jules Wainstein starting grilling Bethenny Frankel about whether Bethenny had or had not texted her after Jules had shared the news of her vagina injury. “I have my own vagina problems,” Bethenny quipped to the camera, though across the table, she insisted she had responded to Jules more than adequately.
Jules Makes a Shocking Admission
“This is really stupid,” Jules noted as she and Bethenny got into it. “Stupid is as stupid does,” Bethenny snapped. That’s when the newbie Housewife hit her breaking point. “I’m not stupid, and I’m really sick of you portraying me as stupid!” Jules shouted. “Your sense of humor is on other people’s expense. My sense of humor is on my expense because I don’t want to hurt other people’s feelings.”
Jules then accused Bethenny of talking about Jules’ marriage behind her back. Bethenny denied it, and Dorinda Medley jumped in. “I think there’s been speculation that their marriage isn’t doing well,” she said (which was apparently true, since they are now getting divorced). Dorinda made sure to add, however, that she had nothing to do with any rumors about Jules’ marriage, and that the only comments she’d made were about how the other women hadn’t been sensitive enough about Jules’ eating disorder.
“Don’t talk about me behind my back!” Jules screamed. “I may be very skinny, and you may not like how skinny I am, but I love my body!” It was unclear whether she was trying to convince everyone else of that fact, or to convince herself — but it did prompt Bethenny to respond.
After explaining that she’d grown up around eating disorders her entire life, Bethenny admitted she’d kept her distance from Jules because she was worried being around her (and her eating issues) would act as a trigger. It seemed that Bethenny’s honesty touched something in Jules because her tone shifted dramatically.
“Three days ago, I thew up my food,” Jules admitted. “I’m not going to lie. Respect that I’m saying this. It’s humiliating.”
Everyone took that in, and Ramona Singer suggested they all take a girls’ trip to Mohegan Sun. Umm. OK.
Update: Luann Is Still in Love
Following the blowout at the dinner party, Ramona and Luann got together to discuss the tension between them. Ramona said she was hurt that Lu questioned her loyalty when she had been trying so hard to help the Countess get back in good graces with both Carole Radziwill and Bethenny. Luann responded by accusing Ramona of not being happy of her for finding love.
“You’re just in lust right now,” Ramona replied. “A smart woman said it takes a full year, four different seasons, to get to know someone.” She didn’t specify who this sage was, but she clarified, “It doesn’t take four weeks.” Luann didn’t give much credence to Ramona’s statement.
“You don’t steal a man away from a woman,” Lu shrugged to the camera with a smile. “A man leaves willingly. Tom and I met. There was magic. End of story.”
Bethenny Knows “Deep, Dark Secrets” About Jules’ Marriage
Excited her kitchen was being put to good use (courtesy of her boyfriend, Adam), Carole had Bethenny and Dorinda over to debrief following the disastrous dinner. When Carole speculated that Jules had been picking a fight with Bethenny specifically, Bethenny revealed her own theory: Jules had shared some “deep, dark secrets” about her marriage with the Skinnygirl mogul, and now was “paranoid” that Bethenny was going to go spreading them all over town.
“She did not accomplish anything except to alienate the both of us,” Carole sighed to the camera. As for what those deep, dark secrets were, Bethenny’s lips were sealed (at least for now).
Meanwhile, Sonja Morgan hosted her own dinner party with guests that included Dorinda; her boyfriend, John Mahdessian; Jules; Jules’ husband, Michael; and some guy named Rocco who Jules was setting up with the hostess. It was pretty clear from the moment Rocco walked into Sonja’s townhouse that he was likely staying the night, but the women still seemed more focused on what had gone down between Jules and Bethenny at the earlier dinner. Sonja praised Bethenny’s honesty, but everyone was overwhelmingly supportive of Jules. (Michael, however, didn’t say much.)
Mohegan Sun or Bust
There’s nothing like taking a party bus to a casino in Connecticut to bring a group of bickering women together … right? Bethenny, Jules, Dorinda, Sonja, Ramona and Carole all boarded the bus and began discussing the fact that Luann had, in fact, gotten engaged. They’d found out from the press rather than from Lu herself, which they all felt was a bit strange.
Bethenny sidled up to Dorinda and began complaining about how Jules had handled their confrontation, but since Jules was sitting about three feet away, she heard everything (which, she noted, probably wasn’t an accident). After she was done rehashing what Jules had done wrong, however, Bethenny’s mood shifted, and she made amends with Sonja, who was nothing short of delighted.
A bit more discussion followed about Luann’s eight-carat canary yellow diamond engagement ring, which Dorinda thought was impressive but Sonja found to be “nouveau” riche (i.e. tacky).
