Stringer Bell as the next 007?

Idris Elba is supposedly in the running to be the next James Bond -- replacing Daniel Craig in an iconic movie role that has also been played by Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan, among others.

"It's a rumor," Elba, 39, recently told NPR. But the hunky, British star of HBO's The Wire and BBC's Luther, plus flicks like Obsessed and Thor, wouldn't necessarily turn down the chance to play the sexy SSI agent -- but he has some reservations.

"I just don't want to be the black James Bond," he explains. "Sean Connery wasn't the Scottish James Bond, and Daniel Craig wasn't the blue-eyed James Bond, so if I played him, I don't want to be called the black James Bond."

Still, admits the married actor: "I'd definitely consider it," he says, adding cheekily: "I'm never shaken or stirred."

It's so funny to me how all the fools saying Idris wouldn't bring anything new to the franchise are really talking out of their ass... what the hell do you know about Idris, again? Have you actually seen him act? And how would you know whether he'd be good or bad, when you've never seen him in the role? Imagination =/= reality. Don't judge until you see. They said DC would make an awful Bond too and he proved them all wrong. Take your ugly racist bias elsewhere. :]

If James Bonds' hair color, eye color, and accent can be changed, why not his skin? I'd see go see it; I'd pay to see the man kick a can down the street :). And for all you bigots (cause no one wants to admit to being a racist) get over yourselves, the times they are a'changing. Either get with it or gtfo.

I think it really all depends on the writing for the script and how well the producers use his strong acting traits into the character. But then you have to take into account about all the bigots and racists out there in the world who will basically have a fit if he dose decide to take the role on. Just read some of the comments posted about this article, if I was him I would stay away from the project just for that point alone. We think racism is bad here in the U.S.A., well it's really bad in Europe!

I think he would make a great JB, he is extremely good looking and a good actor. BUT, i think he's strong enough to have a spy character film franchise built around him, like JB was. A sexy, mature, experienced spy named Darin Shane, or something. But yea,, he could carry it well. i voted yes for him as bond.

Hell no!!!!!!!! Let's do the Jefferson's with an all white cast! How about The Cosby Show or Good Times with an all white cast. Beverly Hills Cop remake with Jack Black! How about a new movie with Fat Albert and the gang with an all white cast. Same thing. Leave JB white.

I think he should not only would he make history. I think he really would do a really good job. He is a wonderful actor and very talented.

To me, definitely not. I don't think he's the James Bond type at all.

  • October 01, 2011 - 3:25pm Jeanette Montoya

He would be awesome as James Bond!! He is such a great actor and handsome too!!!

  • October 01, 2011 - 1:59am Rebecca Christiansen

oh my goodness he would be awesome. He's perfection in a suit and the accent is just to die for. He'd be a welcome respite from all the puny guys like Pierce Brosnan and little Daniel Craig..he's gorgeous and has more sex appeal in one finger...

No way, this guy isn't even close to representing a Bond. There are so many that fit the bill better. He is not very goodlooking at all either. No "IT" factor here.

This is some sort of joke. For him it's a job yes but he cannot bring anything new to the franchise. A franchise this old has to give the viewers something new and Idris is not it for this franchise. If he had one of his own maybe that would work for 4 films. something like the Bourne series..

Try someone from Wales this time.

  • September 30, 2011 - 6:00pm Susan Shin

That's kind of a bad idea. The series is almost used up as far as freshness goes and doing this would not add anything to the Bond character. he should be in his own style of espionage film. Something that he could make into his own franchise instead of him going into this and having to prove himself better at performing in the role. No He should Not be Bond.

Hey Dean Sierra, get a life and get over yourself!!!~ Yes, In would love to see Elba play James Bond. He's a wonderful actor and I think he would be a wonderful addition.

He would be a great James Bond. Unfortunately, America is not ready for him to be James Bond bc they would say he is the FIRST BLACK.

  • September 30, 2011 - 2:31pm A.J. Morning

Having watched Elba's brilliant work on The Wire, he'd be fantastic. Stringer Bell was a far more complex character than James Bond, and Elba nailed it.

  • September 30, 2011 - 2:10pm Dean Serra

If this is the next James Bond, then I am through watching James Bond films.
