Bad news for The Bachelorette! After eight successful seasons on ABC, the popular dating show returned with dismal ratings on Monday, May 27. Unfortunately for ABC and show star Desiree Hartsock, few tuned in to see the 27-year-old bridal stylist meet her crop of suitors during the show's two-hour Season 9 opener.

Hartsock's first episode as the bachelorette attracted just 5.8 million viewers and scored a 1.9 rating in the adults 18-49 demo, down 27 percent from Emily Maynard's Season 8 debut in May 2012. NBC's The Voice was the most-watched show of the night on Memorial Day, nabbing 10.88 million viewers and a 3.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demo.

When Ali Fedotowsky's first Bachelorette episode aired in 2010, 9.08 million fans tuned in to see the former Facebook employee find love with Roberto Martinez. (The former fiances have since split.) Season 7, which starred dental school grad Ashley Hebert, kicked off with 9.02 million viewers in 2011. She married construction manager JP Rosenbaum the following year.

Previous Bachelorettes include Trista Sutter, Meredith Phillips, Jen Schefft, DeAnna Pappas, Jillian Harris, Fedotowsky, Hebert and Maynard.
