Not even gravity can be trusted! Indeed, nothing in the woods is as it seems in the new movie The Forest, as seen in Us Weekly's exclusive sneak peek.

The horror film, out January 8, stars Natalie Dormer (Hunger Games: Mockingjay) and Taylor Kinney (Chicago Fire). The plot centers on Sara (Dormer) searching for her twin sister in Japan's spooky Aokigahara Forest, known for its high incidence of suicide.

In the clip, Aiden (Kinney) tries to help Sara make her way out of the wilderness. Sara freaks out after noticing a dead body floating along in the mysterious river below, and then she butts heads with Aiden over which direction they should take.

"Two minutes ago, we were walking that way, and now you're leading me back the way we came," Sara says, realizing that the river's flow has somehow switched directions.

To hear his snarky response, watch the clip above.

The Forest hits theaters on January 8.
