As if Earth didn't have enough troubles: In this slick sci-fi tale (a remake of a hit 1984 miniseries), FBI agent and single mom Erica (Lost's low-key Elizabeth Mitchell) is shaken, along with the rest of the planet, by the arrival of massive spaceships filled with human-looking extraterrestrials. These "visitors," led by Anna (a disappointingly stiff Morena Baccarin), claim they come in peace, but Erica, a mystery man (Morris Chestnut) and an ambitious TV news anchor (Scott Wolf) are skeptical. With stunning special effects, fast-paced storytelling and a few scary jolts, this is prime popcorn fun. Granted, it will be a challenge to maintain the breakneck action throughout the season (perhaps that's why ABC is giving the show a brief hiatus after just four episodes). Good thing the compelling Mitchell and her costars give V a hearty, human kick. (ABC, 8 P.M.)
