AIR DATE: MONDAY 2/8

Ratings for this lighthearted crime drama are on the rise, and it's easy to see why, judging by this week's agreeable tale. NYPD detective Beckett (Stana Katic, occasionally channeling Mariska Hargitay) and her partner, mystery writer Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), are thrown several clever twists as they struggle to solve the murder of a baseball star. While the lead characters still feel flimsy -- sharper banter would help -- the show's refreshingly offbeat cases and breezy polish are a pleasant alternative to CSI-style gore. (ABC, 10 P.M.)

I have to disagree with you about the lead characters being flimsy. I think they are anything but flimsy and in fact are probably the most strongly drawn leads in the genre. Beckett is not only a strong, competent, compassionate, professional women, but also shows a fun humorous side. She isn't shrill and doesn't have the typical hangup's that female TV detectives seem to have. Castle is fun loving, seemingly carefree guy, but is in fact a strong parent and son, who always looks out for those who are down on their luck. And unlike the genre, Castle, the outsider, doesn't solve everything and make the police look incompetent.

Flimsy? One of the points that I like best about this show compared to other shows is that the characters have depth! There's so much more to be explored. What are you basing this review on?

Must respectfully disagree about "flimsy" leads...Fillion and Katic make for two strong, funny, charming leads with the ability to play a range of emotion. The writing in this series is amazing, and the acting is brillant...the cast has terrific chemistry!

The same question here, what do you base your opinion on that the lead characters are flimsy? I totally disagree with it...

Yes, why do you say that the characters are flimsy?? They are anything but that--each and every one of the characters in this series are full of nuances and depth.
