Not today, haters! Less than a week after The Sun claimed that Cara Delevingne was deemed “too bloated” to walk the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, the British model turned actress hit back with a strong message — and a personal letter from VS’ CMO to boot.
Responding to the claim that her body was simply not up to snuff in 2014, Delevingne, 24, shared a letter from Ed Razek, who leads the show’s annual casting call, on Friday, November 4, via Instagram.
“Dearest Cara,” Razek began, “Victoria’s Secret rarely comments on tabloid gossip, but this week’s article in British paper The Sun regarding you and the 2014 Victoria’s Secret fashion show is complete fabrication.”
He continued, “Contrary to The Sun‘s claims, which they never bothered to fact check with me, Victoria’s Secret made every effort to have you in the London show. I know, because I was the one making the effort. As a matter of fact, you were the first person invited, months ahead of anyone else. The alleged casting, where supposedly disparaging remarks were made, never happened. There was NO casting. You had already been enthusiastically confirmed.”
So why, in the end, didn’t the Suicide Squad actress strut her stuff? Because, as Razek notes in his letter, she was in North Carolina filming the movie adaptation of John Green‘s Paper Towns. The exec noted that the crew “quite understandably couldn’t accommodate your absence.”
Razek finished by toasting Delevingne’s model skills — “you would have made the show better, as you do anything and everything you’re involved in” — and extending a formal invitation for her to join the 2016 show on November 30 in Paris. “As always, we’d love to have you. No casting necessary!” he wrote.
The British beauty added one final note as a caption: “🌞 it’s shameless to discuss women’s bodies just to sell papers #bloated ❤️ @victoriassecret.”
