I totally paused! Willow Smith channeled Clueless’ Cher Horowitz in a new spread for the ninth issue of CR Fashion Book.
The “Why Don’t You Cry” singer, 15, rocked a yellow plaid blazer with a matching pleated short skirt in the photo, just like the 1995 character played by Alicia Silverstone. She added an extra dose of ‘90s style with alternating black and white knee-high socks and three-inch T.U.K. A8665 White Black Creepers ($67.69 on sale, rivithead.com). Smith, who’s the daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, added her own flavor to the look with a coordinating head wrap, leaving a few of her black dreadlocks loose.
Willow’s Clueless costume is just one of many looks seen in the CR Fashion Book’s ninth issue, out now, in which she graces the cover. She also wears a matching corset with Jada, 45, in the shoot photographed by legendary shutterbug Bruce Weber. Rihanna also covers the magazine, taking sartorial inspiration from Marie Antoinette.
In the issue, Willow, who’s a Chanel eyewear ambassador, opens up about her thoughts on the meaning of beauty and her creative process. “If I am feeling negative about something and I just need to get it out in any form of art, it usually has no steps or organization. It has a fire behind it that spits like a dragon, creating a work of art,” she wrote in an essay. “But when I am calm and somewhat in a positive mood, it’s more methodized and like a river with no bank, that’s directed by intention. I used to just go into the booth and channel any energy that wanted to choose me and record that. But lately I’ve been writing songs outside of the studio and then recording. Mindless creation can be a form of meditation, but there is an intense power in flowing your energy in a certain direction with intent.”
