A highlight of the British social calendar since its inception in 1711, the 2018 Royal Ascot is currently underway at the Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire, England. The five-day affair attracts those with and without a royal pedigree, but with a very strict dress code that requires men to wear a morning suit, waistcoat and black or gray top hat, and women to arrive in modest dresses and hats that are at least four inches wide at the base (i.e. no fascinators), one thing is certain: it is always a fashionable fete.
While Queen Elizabeth II is on hand each day to open the event, other members of her regal brood pop in an out as their schedules permit. Just one month after their royal wedding, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (i.e. the Duke and Duchess of Sussex) attended the opening day festivities on Tuesday, June 19, to much fanfare. Meg stunned in a white Givenchy mididress with a Philip Treacy topper, while Harry was dapper in a blue-accented suit. Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have also turned up at the Ascot this year, as have Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Anne and Hollywood darlings like Ciara, Russell Wilson and Michelle Dockery.
