It wasn't easy being (the unofficial) Mrs. Johnny Depp.
Vanessa Paradis sat down with Harper's Bazaar in an interview conducted just two days before she and Depp announced their split on June 19.
Although the French actress and singer, 39, didn't mention Depp, 49, by name, or go into specifics about their 14-year relationship, she dropped telling hints about romantic struggles — and about letting go.
"Love is the strongest and most fragile thing we have in life," says Paradis, who shares kids Lily-Rose, 13, and Jack, 10, with the Dark Shadows actor.
She adds: "Nothing is ever for sure, but when something in love doesn't work from the beginning, it's never going to work. Don't push it."
Indeed, by all accounts, the couple have split amicably, and reunited in July at their $5 million mansion with their kids, even holding hands at one point.
"When you meet the love of your life, it's just obvious and natural and easier," Paradis explains to Harper's Bazaar.
"You keep learning all the time. Sometimes you could be in an unhappy relationship; you are very much in love with someone, but it's making you unhappy and you think things can change and you can work it out."
And — single men take note! — Paradis also tells the magazine what kind of man she likes. "Well, my type is obviously creative . . .Creative, with burning eyes and a pretty mouth."
