Well, Kevin sure did like his pizza! Therefore, it’s only fitting this holiday season that former Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin is in a hipster parody band of The Velvet Underground — one which only sings about pizza.
The group, aptly named The Pizza Underground, has performed at least one show at the Sidewalk Cafe on Nov. 11, and released its first track on Dec. 2: An eight-minute medley that includes songs like “Pizza Day,” “Papa John Says,” and “Waiting for the Delivery Man.” (The songs are spoofs of actual tracks by The Velvet Underground, the legendary 60s group fronted by the late Lou Reed.) The musical medley was recorded live at Culkin’s house on Nov. 11, according to the group’s official website.
Child star Culkin, 33, who was photographed in November enjoying a Parisian vacation with new girlfriend Jordan Lane Price, has his own special role in the group: The star is the point man for vocals, the kazoo and percussion — Culkin bangs on empty pizza boxes rather than drums — and his bandmates include Matt Colbourn, Phoebe Kreutz, Deena Vollmer, and Austin Kilham.
On the group’s Facebook page, Culkin looks happy and healthy as he expresses his passion for pizza. The troupe also points out that they were formed back in February 2012, prior to the death of Reed in October 2013.
Listen to their demo, and tell Us: Is it a pizza party? Or far too cheesy?
