Pippa Middleton‘s life may not be normal, but her relationship with her big sister, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, is. Speaking with the Today show’s Matt Lauer in her first-ever television interview—part two of which aired on Tuesday, July 1—the British socialite, 30, said that she and Catherine, 32, are like any other sisters, albeit with the eyes of the entire world upon them.
Asked whether Kate’s royal status had changed their relationship, Pippa replied, “Not particularly. I mean, obviously she has pressures that she’s taken on and things, but we spend a lot of time together. We still do a lot together as a family. And I think that’s sort of the heart for all of us, having a really close family. We can sort of be normal with each other, treat each other normally, and that’s sort of kept us all fixed to the ground.”
“So you can call any night and say, ‘Hey, Kate, it’s Pippa, let’s just do girl talk’?” Lauer asked incredulously.
“We have a very normal sisterly relationship,” the entrepreneur and philanthropist said, laughing. “We’re very close. We support each other and get each other’s opinions and things.”
Pippa also lit up when talking about her nephew, Prince George, whom Duchess Catherine and Prince William welcomed in July 2013. “It’s wonderful,” she gushed of being an aunt. “He’s amazing. He’s a very, very dear boy. And he’s brought a lot of pleasure and fun for all of us, the whole family.”
“He’s very characterful,” she added of the heir to the throne, who will be 12 months old on July 22. “He’s sort of brought us all together, and we love spending weekends with him. He’s very funny.”
