Duggar Family Quotes Scripture, Vows to Uphold Their Values “in Love and Kindness” Amid Kissing Controversy

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar
Amid controversy over their Facebook kissing challenge, the Duggars shared a message about upholding their values "without compromise but...in love and kindness"

The Duggars continue to keep the faith, even in the face of controversy. After parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar were accused by commenters of deleting pictures of same-sex couples from their official Facebook page, the family posted a message about remaining steadfast in their convictions, using a passage from scripture to illustrate their point.

The post, shared via Facebook on Thursday, Nov. 13, quoted a line from Luke 6:27: "But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you."

"This is such a sweet scripture that we hold dear," the Duggars wrote. "We will always stand for truth and the values we hold dear without compromise but we will do so in love and kindness — treating others well even if we don't agree with them and we will do so without hateful words. This verse is a reminder of how we must always carry ourselves. Precious words from Jesus."

The post did not specifically mention the family's current controversy, but the timing is more than a little coincidental. Earlier this week, on Monday, Nov. 10, Jim Bob and Michelle uploaded a photo of themselves imitating daughter Jessa's romantic kiss with husband Ben Seewald, and then asked their Facebook fans to follow suit by sharing pics with their own spouses.

"God designed marriage to be a loving, dynamic relationship between a husband and wife for a lifetime," they wrote. "God loves marriage and it is supposed to be full of love, joy, fun, and romance."

Not long after, LGBTQ activist John Becker blogged that he'd shared a photo of himself and his husband in the comments section of the Duggars' post, but that it had been deleted. He also said he'd been banned from commenting further, and that other photos of same-sex couples had been removed as well.

"It's their page, of course, so they have every right to do that," Becker wrote on The Bilerico Project. "But as I noted, the whole episode says something about them and their gay panic-saturated worldview."
