We couldn’t help but wonder, what would Carrie Bradshaw say? Ron Livingston hit the 2015 Sundance Film Festival this week and took the chance to recreate one of his most famous scenes from Sex and the City.
Livingston, who is in Park City, Utah to promote his upcoming movie Digging for Fire, was photographed by Cosmopolitan editor Charlotte Palermino at Sundance holding a yellow Post-it reading, “I’m sorry. I can’t. Don’t hate me.”

Looking casual in a black-and-white Puma jacket and with a forlorn look on his face, Livingston was paying homage to his SATC character Jack Berger. The Boardwalk Empire actor, 47, played Carrie Bradshaw’s tortured writer boyfriend on an eight-episode arc on SATC‘s fifth and sixth seasons in 2002 and 2003.
Said Post-it came into play into an August 2003 episode titled “The Post-it Always Sticks Twice.” Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Berger have been fighting for weeks over everything from the importance of scrunchies to professional priorities, and although they recently reconciled, he decides to call it off once and for all.
Carrie wakes up to a breakup in the form of a Post-it reading simply, “I’m sorry. I can’t. Don’t hate me.” The snubbing inspires Carrie to take a wild night out with Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), that results in a run-in with cops, or, “the day [Carrie] got arrested for smokin’ a doobie.”
In the years since Livingston put his SATC character to bed in 2003, he has gone on to star in movies like Little Black Book, The Time Traveler’s Wife, Dinner for Schmucks, and Drinking Buddies, and made appearances in shows including House, Standoff, and Defying Gravity.
