Watch at your own risk! The first trailer for the upcoming remake of the supernatural thriller Poltergeist was released on Thursday, Feb. 5, and if these brief but terrifying glimpses of the movie are any indication, the new film will be just as spine-chillingly scary as the original.
Produced by Sam Raimi and directed by Gil Kenan, the remake stars Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt as Eric and Amy Bowen, who move into a haunted house in the middle of suburbia. What happens next will give you nightmares.
The flick is based on Steven Spielberg‘s film of the same name from 1982, which starred JoBeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson. Now considered a classic, the original is ranked No. 84 on the American Film Institute’s 100 Years…100 Thrills list. It spawned two sequels, 1986’s Poltergeist II: The Other Side and 1988’s Poltergeist III.
It also spawned rumors of a Poltergeist curse, based on the fact that multiple cast members died during the series’ six-year span.
“This is why I showed up,” remake director Kenan told USA Today. “How great. You go through life looking for a curse. And here’s the opportunity to step right into one and make a movie. I have been trying to catch a curse since I was like 11.”
