Chopped! Dean McDermott is bidding adieu with Chopped: Canada. Tori Spelling’s husband announced on Instagram on Monday, March 2 that he’s leaving the cooking competition show after serving as host for the past two seasons.
“It is with a heavy heart I announce I will no longer be the host of @ChoppedCanada Thank you to a great crew, judges and chefs. Thank you @FoodNetworkCa for the op. Onward and upward,” the Toronto native shared.
Although it’s unclear why the dad of four is leaving the show, Canada itself has proven to be bad news for the star, who admitted to having an alcohol-induced affair in the country with Emily Goodhand in December 2013. The affair — which landed the star in therapy alongside Spelling and was well-documented on their hit reality TV show True Tori — almost caused the actor to not return to the Food Network series as well.
After admitting to Spelling he cheated while in Canada, the reality star begged her husband to not return to the show. “I have a career that I have to sustain,” McDermott told Spelling during the finale of their show, where they fought over him returning to the gig. After battling over the decision, Spelling decided it was best for McDermott to continue the gig that he’s worked so hard for.
“I’m leaving my wife and my family at a time that they really, really need me,” McDermott told the camera at the time. “I’m a different person. I’m changing.”
