Fans of the statement lip, rejoice! The vibrant hues that popped up all summer long are lasting into fall with a particular emphasis on a ruby red shade that Dorothy would be proud of.
Take a gander at Carey Mulligan, whose ruby red pout perfectly complemented her feminine Alexander McQueen dress at the Suffragette premiere in New York City on Monday, Oct. 12. “Her lips were the main focus,” celeb makeup artist Georgie Eisdell tells Us. To achieve the look, she used Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Pirate.
There’s also Cara Delevingne, who spotlighted that incredible lip cuff (yes, lip cuff!) thanks to her saturated red hue at the Chanel exhibition party in London, also on Oct. 12.
Selena Gomez also played off her all-black ensemble with a pop of color while exiting the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, Oct. 14, in New York City.
But don’t just take their pouts as proof, Us Weekly chatted with Gwen Stefani, the queen of the red lip herself, on how to make the color last. Turns out, the secret has nothing to do with the actual lipstick itself.
“Definitely liner helps,” the Voice judge, who’s willing to try any brand, tells Us Weekly.
And, be mindful of your mouth. “One of my girlfriends licks and smacks her lips together, and she never understands why her lipstick goes away in seconds,” Stefani, who has partnered with MasterCard for its Priceless Surprises experiences, tells Us. “I tell her, ‘You can not lick your lips – ever! Just keep them separated!’”
