Apparently everyone in Chicago got the day off from work on Friday, November 4. Millions of people attended the Chicago Cubs victory parade following the team’s history-making, extra-inning World Series win against the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night.
The parade started around 11 a.m. and led fans on a seven-mile route throughout the downtown area to Grant Park, where a rally was held.
Hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets as the Cubs players rode in double-decker open-air buses, waving at fans who were eager to celebrate the team’s first World Series win in 108 years.
In honor of the team, the city dyed the Chicago River bright blue, and Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner declared Friday as “World Champion Chicago Cubs Day” statewide.
It’s unclear exactly how many people attended the parade, but some estimates from local reports put the crowd well over the city’s 2.7 million residents.
