Adele and Beyoncé are squad goals. The stars opened up about their admiration for each other in the British singer’s December 2016 Vanity Fair magazine cover story.
Queen Bey, 35, kicked off the lovefest by complimenting Adele’s raw talent. “When Adele sings you can hear that it’s coming from an unfiltered honesty and purity,” she told the mag. “She creates songs that go deep and expose pain and vulnerability with her soulful voice. She takes you places other artists don’t go to anymore — the way they did in the ‘70s.”
Beyoncé and the “Hello” songstress, 28, have rubbed shoulders at several red carpet events. In 2013, they were spotted laughing and posing together at the 55th annual Grammy Awards.
“It is so easy to talk to her and be around her,” Bey added. “She’s funny as hell and her comebacks are legendary. The most beautiful thing about Adele is that she has her priorities straight. She is a gracious woman and the most humble human being I’ve ever met.”
For Adele, the feeling is mutual. The London-based artist revealed that she’s been following Beyoncé’s career since she heard the 1998 Destiny’s Child hit “No, No, No” for the first time at age 11.
“She’s my Michael Jackson,” Adele said.
More recently, Adele applauded Beyoncé for her second visual album, Lemonade. “I’m not late on this I’ve just been speechless,” Adele captioned an Instagram post of herself hugging a cutout of Bey on May 3. “Beyoncé is the most inspiring person I’ve ever had the pleasure of worshipping. Her talent, beauty, grace and work ethic are all in a league of their own. I appreciate you so much! Thank god for Beyoncé X.”
Though Beyoncé has been an inspiration for the Grammy winner, Adele noted that Stevie Nicks and Bette Midler have also inspired her through the years. “Every day as I get older, I appreciate women more and more,” she told VF. “When you’re between the ages of 15 and 19, maybe you see women as competition, as opposed to lifesavers and people that hold your hand and have experienced pretty much everything that you have. So the more women in my life the better.”
