A new era of magic. The full-length trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has finally debuted, giving fans another look into the wizarding world before the film’s November 18 release.
The new footage, which premiered on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Wednesday, September 28, finds magizoologist Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) fighting to save his suitcase full of magical creatures after they escape into 1920s New York City.
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts, which is set 70 years before the Potter events and also stars Colin Farrell, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller and Jon Voight.
The trailer gives viewers a sneak peek of the No-Maj (the American version of Muggles, or non-magic folk) as they discover that witches, wizards and Newt’s creatures are invading their territory. In one tense scene, the wizards are even pictured pointing their wands at armed NYC police officers.
“I refuse to bow down,” Farrell’s character, Percival Graves, says as he tries to track down the lurking creatures.
Earlier this year, Rowling, 51, promised Potterheads that she has more Fantastic Beasts stories on the way, confirming that the film franchise will, in fact, be a trilogy. The yet-untitled sequel is expected for a 2018 release. “#FantasticBeasts will be 3 movies,” the beloved author tweeted in February.
