Still fuming about having to wait months to find out which Walking Dead character got up close and personal with Lucille in the season 6 finale? Star Norman Reedus says it’ll be worth it.
“Trust me. I think probably the planet is going to explode,” the actor, who plays Daryl Dixon, dished to Entertainment Weekly about the hit AMC show’s October return. “That’s my feeling. It’s so good.”
The closing moments showed Negan, the diabolical new villain played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, repeatedly smashing his wire-covered bat, Lucille, on an unseen character. The scene offered fans little more than gut-wrenching noises and blood spatters on the screen as the weapon made contact with human flesh.
Viewers vented their frustrations on social media immediately after the zombie drama ended with the major cliffhanger in April, demanding to know if the victim was Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Daryl, Michonne (Danai Gurira), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Glenn (Steven Yeun) or another member of the close-knit group of survivors.
“They’re still talking about it,” the 47-year-old actor said to EW of fans’ reaction to the gruesome ending. “The fact that people are still talking is a huge compliment to how that episode was executed and the acting in it and the writing of it. That’s a good thing.”
What’s even better, he noted, is the payoff come season 7.
“[The show] just continually reaches a new plateau every single time, and this is the highest plateau we’ve ever been,” Reedus said. “So just wait. It’s worth the wait, trust me.”
