A massive “dust devil” took over a college softball game in Lynchburg, Virginia, on Saturday, April 16.
In the video, the Lynchburg Hornets are pitching to the Bridgewater Eagles at Lynchburg College’s Moon Field when a whirlwind of dust takes over the pitcher’s mound during the top of the second inning.
The Hornets’ digital-media director, Joseph Hutzler, shot the footage and told Storyful that shortstop Nicole Riley “said it just popped up at her back and ‘swallowed’ her up.”
In the short clip, the two teams attempt to shield themselves from the dust while trying to avoid its path.
The mini-tornado eventually dies down and evaporates into the sky, almost like magic.
