Meghan Trainor is all about the new right now. The star, who won the Grammy for Best New Artist in February, is not only sporting a hot hair-color change from blonde to reddish brown, but she also dropped a new tune, titled “NO,” on March 4.
The 22-year-old, who recently shot her Skechers commercial at the Firestone Industrial Center in L.A., dishes exclusively about her brand new song to Us Weekly.
"For this commercial, for my new song (produced by Ricky Reed) we’re doing edgier stuff, we’re not doing the ‘50s throwback stuff anymore,” she tells Us. "We’re doing more modern. Hardcore. Which is my favorite, which is, like, more me, more M-Train, which I like.”
As far as her new album, Thank You, goes (which will be released May 13), Trainor hints that fans can expect some more of her strong, self-love themes.
"I’m coming back with an intense anthem that I’m very proud of. I’m stoked about it. It’s a big, woman power anthem," she explains. "It’s basically like when guys try to come up to you in clubs and you’re like, ‘Before you say anything, I’m good. I’m good with my girls.’”
But she wasn’t always comfortable in her own skin.
"It took a minute! It took ‘All About That Bass.’ It really did. You can see pictures of me in scarves covering up my boobs, and like big cardigans. Like I would never be sleeveless ever in life, and I was like, ‘How can I cover this?’” she says. "I did my first photo shoot recently where I took my sleeves off. I cried after for a minute, because it was such a big deal that I finally did that."
And although she is currently single, the Nantucket, Massachusetts, native shared what types of guys strike her.
"Nice guys,” she answers without hesitation, “Yeah, sweethearts.” Then jokes, “I’m looking for a 40-year-old, I guess!"
