In memoriam. Stone Temple Pilots have broken their silence on the death of their former lead singer, Scott Weiland, in an open letter posted on their website and Facebook page on Friday, Dec. 4.
“Dear Scott, let us start by saying thank you for sharing your life with us,” the touching letter began. “Together we crafted a legacy of music that has given so many people happiness and great memories. The memories are many, and they run deep for us.”

The band’s surviving members — guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo, and drummer Eric Kretz — continued, “We know amidst the good and the bad you struggled, time and time again. It’s what made you who you were. You were gifted beyond words, Scott. Part of that gift was your curse.”

Weiland died in his sleep Thursday, Dec. 3, while on tour with his band The Wildabouts. TMZ reported that the 48-year-old singer, who struggled with drug addiction throughout his career, died of cardiac arrest.
“With deep sorrow for you and your family, we are saddened to see you go,” the bandmates wrote. “All of our love and respect. We will miss you brother.”
