“There is no shame in gaining weight during pregnancy (or ever),” The Princess Diaries actress, 33, wrote on Instagram on Monday, August 8. “There is no shame if it takes longer than you think it will to lose the weight (if you want to lose it at all).”

She shared the inspiring message alongside a photo of her latest DIY project. The actress cut a pair of relaxed boyfriend jeans above the knee and cuffed the hems into shorts.

“There is no shame in finally breaking down and making your own jean shorts because last summer’s are just too dang short for this summer’s thighs. Bodies change. Bodies grow. Bodies shrink. It’s all love (don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.) Peace xx,” she wrote, adding the hashtags #noshame and #lovewhatyouhavebeengiven.

The Intern actress has been vocal about body confidence and doing things on her own terms. She first confirmed her pregnancy in a bikini Instagram pic in January after she spotted a paparazzo capturing a shot of her at the beach. “Posting a bikini pic is a little out of character for me, but just now while I was at the beach I noticed I was being photographed. I figure if this kind of photo is going to be out in the world it should at least be an image that makes me happy,” she captioned her first bump photo.

The Devil Wears Prada star also opened up to Ellen DeGeneres about her newfound confidence at the gym. “I normally walk in [my West Hollywood gym] and feel so intimidated,” she said. “But [now] I walk in, I’m like, ‘Yeah I work out with five-pound weights, but I pushed a baby out of my body. I feel good right now.’”
