Shut up! Anne Hathaway paid tribute to her beloved 2001 Disney film The Princess Diaries by sharing a touching Instagram post on Wednesday, August 3.
The Oscar-winning actress, 33, posted a hilarious GIF of herself as awkward teen turned Princess of Genovia Mia Thermopolis dancing next to Queen Clarisse’s (Julie Andrews) head of security, Joe (played by Héctor Elizondo).
“It’s been 15 years (say it with me) SHUT UP!!!!! To all the fans who have loved Mia, Louie, Lily, Joe, Michael and, of course, Queen Clarisse, thank you from the bottom of my heart!” Hathaway captioned the ’gram.
She also took a moment to praise the nurturing talent of director Garry Marshall, who died at age 81 on Tuesday, July 19, from complications of pneumonia following a stroke.
“And to Garry Marshall, thank you for making me a princess,” the mom of Jonathan, 4 months, added. “I love you always my beloved friend and teacher, and I miss you every day xx.”
The day after the Happy Days creator passed away, the Les Miserables star took to Facebook to honor Marshall with a sweet remembrance.
“Garry was goodness itself,” she wrote. “He was generous. He was kind beyond kind. He was thoughtful and sweet and so funny you would pee yourself a little. I met him when I was a child who thought she was a grownup; he treated me with grace and patience and respect and always, always love. I’m so happy I made three films with him. I’m so happy he blessed my son in my belly the last time I saw him (we never think it will be the last time).”
“Before we made The Princess Diaries, he told me, ‘You never know if a movie is going to be a hit or not. The only thing you can control is the memories you make when shooting it. So, let’s make some good memories,’” Hathaway added. “That advice changed my life even more than the film did.”
