Dame Helen Mirren may not be a fan of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, but she's happy for the body-positive results of Kim Kardashian's infamous March 7 nude selfie.
"I'm not into the Kardashians, it's a phenomenon I just don't find interesting, but — and this is the big word: B-U-T-T — it's wonderful that you're allowed to have a butt nowadays!" Mirren, 70, said in a new interview with The Sunday Telegraph's Stella Magazine. "Thanks to Madame Kardashian, and before her, J.Lo, we're also allowed to have thighs now, which is great too. It's very positive."
For the Trumbo star it's all about acknowledging how far we've come and rewarding boldness. "When I was growing up, it was thought to be unbelievably sluttish to even have a bra strap showing. Everything was about women conforming," she explained. "I love shameless women. Shameless and proud!"
Mirren's response is the exact opposite of the one from fellow 70-year-old star Bette Midler, who spoke out against Kardashian's skin-baring pose on Twitter, writing that the Selfish author would have to "swallow the camera" to show something we've never seen before.
Kardashian responded via Twitter, writing, "hey @BetteMidler I know it's past your bedtime but if you're still up and reading this send nudes #justkidding."
