In the episode, titled “International Assassin,” Theroux, 44, barely covers his wet, buff body with a towel after taking a shower. He also shows off his bare butt(!), rock-hard abs, broad shoulders, and tattoos.
Theroux’s revealing scene wasn’t the most surprising thing to happen this season though. As fans now know, Theroux’s character, Kevin Garvey, is still very much alive despite being killed off on the Nov. 15 episode. (On Sunday, Kevin reappeared as he desperately tried to crawl out of his grave.)
Theroux opened up about the crazy scenario during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter when viewers still thought that Kevin was dead. “It’s not my show — it’s such an ensemble. So it’s plausible that I could be killed off easily. I don’t think the show would be lacking. You might miss the character, but it could easily trundle on. There’s enough great story lines to go around,” he said at the time.
“[Creator Damon Lindelof] told me that people were bugging out, and I think that’s a good thing,” he continued. “But it was also one of those deaths that was on point story-wise. It wasn’t just some random killing for the sake of killing — it was a guy who really was trying to get his life in order and rid himself of this massive mental anguish.”
The Leftovers airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
