Miles Teller has said farewell to his boy-next-door looks as seen in flicks such as The Spectacular Now and 21 & Over. The Insurgent actor (look out Chris Pratt!) unveiled his sexy, ripped body transformation during The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on Monday, Mar. 16.
Fallon pulled out shirtless before-and-after photos of the star, which were greeted by swoons and applause from the audience. Teller’s buffed-up physique and six-pack abs are the result of working out for his upcoming film Bleed for This.
Teller has been training with Freddie Roach, who has also worked with Manny Pacquiao. “His gym isn’t too far from me,” Teller previously told Us Weekly. “He pushed me hard. I’ve been on a diet plan, [and] have been counting every calorie.”
The actor plays five-time World Champion Boxer Vinny Pazienza in the Ben Younger-directed sports drama. Pazienza famously recovered after injuring himself in a near-fatal car accident in 1991. He was told he might never walk again, but made a remarkable comeback in the ring.
“It’s just a crazy story. This guy is the definition of a champion and a warrior and I was honored [to play him],” Teller, 28, told Fallon. “When they offered me the part I was like, ‘Well, I can’t grow a mustache and I’m not in very good shape,” he said, laughing. “I literally said, ‘Are you sure?’ I was just so intimidated by this guy’s story.”
Teller wasn’t kidding about his facial hair. The Pennsylvania native, who also shaped up for his Oscar-winning film Whiplash and the upcoming Fantastic Four (he plays Mr. Fantastic!), got teased for his mustache in Vanity Fair’s recent Hollywood issue.
“Are you playing Justin Bieber in a movie?” Fallon joked, skimming through the magazine’s pages. Teller cracked: “I take a long time to grow some facial hair, man. Everyone has their strengths. I’m a great dancer, I have good hair, I don’t have weird body hair.”
He added: “I would love to grow a thick Tom Selleck mustache, but I physically can’t.”
Bleed for This also stars Aaron Eckhart, Katey Sagal, Ciarán Hinds, and Ted Levine. It hits theaters later this year.
