Taking a stand! Tyler Baltierra is defending himself after people on social media tried to shame him for taking care of his health. Baltierra has been updating his fans on his recent weight loss, and some followers have said that it seems like he’s “having a good time” while his wife, Catelynn Lowell, is currently seeking treatment for mental health issues.

The MTV star, 26, shared side by side photos of himself to show his progress after losing 35 pounds. “Today marks 8 weeks from when I made the decision to make a lifestyle change,” he captioned the Instagram snap on Thursday, February 1. “I started caring more about what kind of food I put in my body & most of all, I wanted to challenge & prove to myself that I can do it! Today I’m 35lbs down & It has ALSO been 2 years & 26 days since I QUIT SMOKING CIGARETTES & I feel FANTASTIC! I’m crushing these personal goals & loving the rewards that come with it! #Motivated #IDontBowDown #IAmMyOnlyCompetition.”

One user responded to the post on Twitter, saying that she hopes that Lowell, 25, doesn’t get criticized if she chooses not to change her lifestyle. “Why would she ‘get s–t’ for that? Another girl asked If it was a ‘good idea’ to lose weight right now because it might make Cates depression/anxiety worse,” he replied. “The only one responsible for managing Cates emotions…is Cate. I have goals too that I refuse to put on the back burner 💯”

Another Twitter user said that it looked like the reality star was “having a good time” without his wife. Baltierra responded: “I think it’s odd that by me expressing pride in one of my accomplishments & self care, makes me a bad guy just because my wife is also investing in her self care simultaneously. Am I not allowed to pursue self care while she’s gone? Or am I supposed to wallow in my self pity?🤔🙄”

Baltierra also tweeted that his wife chose not to participate once he started his health journey, which made things more challenging for him. “That makes it REALLY difficult. When I started my health kick Cate didn’t want to join me & kept ordering pizza & I had to eat my salad while staring at the beauty of that perfect looking, cheesy, pepperoni greatness! I considered it a test of will power though lol 😋😛😂” he said.

One follower said that she believes that the Conquering Chaos author holds her husband back, to which he replied: “Absolutely not. Correction…NO ONE can hold you back besides YOU! To blame your own iniquities on someone else is unfair. To both you & them 👊🏻”

The couple, who tied the knot in August 2015, first appeared on MTV’s 16 and Pregnant back in 2009. The young couple made the decision to place their baby, Carly, now 8, up for adoption at the time, and have since welcomed daughter Novalee, 3.

As previously reported, Lowell returned to treatment for a third time in January to seek help for mental health issues. This came after she entered treatment in November after experiencing suicidal thoughts.

The Teen Mom OG star suffered from postpartum depression in 2016, which was documented on the show. In November 2016, the duo discussed her battle on The Doctors, admitting that it has impacted their relationship and communication.
