Jenna Dewan’s 4-year-old daughter Everly doesn’t do styrofoam. “She’ll be like , ‘Mommy, you need to recycle that.’ Or ‘Be careful. ‘Respect nature!’” Dewan, 37, told Us Weekly and other reporters at the Environmental Media Associations Awards in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, May 22.
But the World of Dance host and her estranged husband, Channing Tatum, can’t take all the credit for their future composter. “She goes to all different camps where she’s learning about nature and she’s with the trees,” Dewan revealed. “She goes to a fairy camp!”
Fairy camp isn’t all whimsical wings and tea parties. “It sounds really girly, but it’s actually quite Girl Scout-ty” explained the Step Up star. The children learn to care for the planet with field trips to Griffith Park in Los Angeles.
While Everly is off identifying trees, Dewan should take a moment for herself. “I have learned the hard way about burning the candle at both ends,” she admitted. “I try . . . before I get that feeling to go and have a spa day or a hike with friends. Or meditate. I know that sounds so boring, but that’s literally what I do!”
Dewan also cherishes quiet, cellphone-free nights at home, especially when she’s busy promoting her NBC show. “Like not doing anything,” she said. “Not answering any emails, and just binge-watching [my] favorite TV show and trying to get to bed early! That really saves me.”
Dewan and Tatum announced in April that they were separating after nine years of marriage but are committed to peacefully coparenting Everly. The former couple released a joint statement via social media, that read in part: “We fell in deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now.”
