Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are parents of a very wise 5-year-old. The proof is in a handwritten message Garner shared with her Instagram followers on Monday, January 15, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It read: “Hello, you are loved. I believe in you.”
In her caption, Garner revealed that a librarian found Samuel’s “love note” tucked into a picture book. “Actsofkindness,” she wrote. “Spreadlove #belikemlkjr.”
“Oh my goodness, all the feels!” wrote one woman. Added another: “Result of an excellent job as mom.”
But the Peppermint actress, 45, can’t take all the credit. She and Affleck are committed to coparenting their children Violet, 12, Seraphina, 9, and Samuel. The former couple announced they were splitting in June 2015, and Garner filed for divorce in April 2017 after nearly 12 years of marriage.
“You have to be on the same page. You have to cooperate,” the 45-year-old dad revealed during a November appearance on Today. “If you recognize that you both have the best interest of the kids at heart, it’s quite a special connection. We’re the only two people in the world who care this much about these three kids. We don’t always agree. I tend to be more permissive about videos games, for example. I played video games when I was a kid.”
The Justice League actor added that he won’t allow Violet to use Instagram or Facebook, but he’s OK with her getting a phone. “Jen is not as supportive as I am of the phone,” he said. “I feel like she should have it to be able to call . . . She goes to her friend’s house and they have less computer supervision over there so she reads stuff. There’s only so much you can do to staunch the flow of information.”
Affleck is now dating Saturday Night Live producer Lindsay Shookus. They went public with their romance in June 2017.
