Ben Affleck and Lindsay Shookus: A Timeline of Their Relationship

It’s over for Ben Affleck and Lindsay Shookus. The actor found love with the Saturday Night Live producer after his 2015 split from estranged wife Jennifer Garner. The pair went public with their romance in July 2017, but they called it quits in August 2018. After briefly rekindling their romance in February 2019, multiple sources confirmed to Us Weekly that the two split for a second time in April. “She has a kid and an ex-husband and a job in New York and Ben has his family and a job in L.A., and while they love and respect each other, they just realized it wasn’t going to work,” an insider explained to Us of their decision to part ways. “They really gave it another solid try.” Despite things not working out for Affleck and Shookus, the insider added the pair "will always have love for each other.” Scroll down to see the timeline of Affleck and Shookus’ relationship.

Secretive Beginnings

A source told Us Weekly that the Batman actor and the Emmy-winning producer have only been dating since April 2017, and that the Live by Night actor is “very happy” and “enjoying Lindsay’s company.”

However, another insider close to Affleck and Garner claims that their relationship has been going on since 2014. “Ben and Lindsay started their affair about three years ago, just a few months after she became a mom,” the source told Us in July 2017. "They were not casually dating — they were having a full-blown affair.”

Affleck and Garner, who share kids Violet, Seraphina and Samuel, officially filed for divorce in April 2017. Meanwhile, Shookus was previously married to her SNL colleague, Kevin Miller, but the duo have since split.

Going Public

The Oscar winner brought along his ladylove for a work trip to London in early July 2017. Affleck was filming reshoots for his film Justice League, but he squeezed in a few date nights, too. The pair dined at the ultra-luxe Gymkhana Indian eatery and saw The Ferryman at Gielgud Theatre.

Another vacay! They were seen picking up some purchases at The Umbrella Factory supermarket in Naples, Maine, in late July 2017.

After returning from the weekend getaway, they headed back to L.A. and were seen having dinner at Pizzeria Mozza and stopping by iO West Comedy Club on August 1, 2017. Affleck’s brother, Casey Affleck, joined them for the comedy show, where Shookus was scouting talent for SNL. “Ben, Lindsay and Casey were laughing through a lot of the performances,” an insider told Us.

Shookus opened up about the attention she received after she began dating Affleck. “It’s strange to me,” she said in the June 2018 issue of Elle magazine. “My entire career has been behind the camera, and that’s definitely where I’m most comfortable. I’m a producer, I’m a mom, a friend. Being considered a public figure honestly makes me laugh.”

Moving On?

Breakup rumors began to swirl after Affleck stepped out for a dinner date with Playboy model Shauna Sexton at Nobu in Malibu on August 16, 2018. Shookus deleted her Instagram in the wake of the news. Three days later, the movie star and Sexton, who is 23 years his junior, stopped by the drive-thru at Jack in the Box in Santa Monica before she spent the night at his home.

It’s Over

Us confirmed on August 20, 2018, that Affleck and Shookus called it quits after more than a year together. A source told Us that the relationship had been “tumultuous.”

Back On!

Us Weekly exclusively confirmed in February 2019 that Affleck and Shookus had rekindled their romance nearly 6 months after their split. A source told Us at the time that the SNL producer “was impressed that he’d gone back to rehab and was sober,” and that the pair “picked up right where they left off.”
