Sticking together! Katie Lowes and Kerry Washington’s relationship goes far beyond their work on Scandal. The Super 8 star opened up about how her costar has been helping her in her new role as a mom at the table read and Q&A event for the show’s finale, which aired on Thursday, April 19.
“It’s so hard and it’s so insane,” Lowes, 36, told reporters of motherhood. “Thank God I work with Kerry Washington and Shonda Rhimes, who are moms themselves, and I go to them constantly.”
Washington, 41, in particular, has been super helpful — even passing down some baby clothes from her 18-month-old son, Caleb. “My kid [Albee] is outfitted in Caleb’s clothes. Her son is older and thank God I get all the hand-me-downs,” Lowes revealed. “It’s the best because my kid is so well-dressed and they’re all given to me.”
“She’s amazing, she’s so smart, she could run a country if she wanted to. She’s a wonderful mom so she’s just always my go-to speed dial,” she gushed about the Confirmation star. “She’s a boss. She’s the best.” Washington is also mom of daughter Isabelle, 3, with husband Nnamdi Asomugha.
After the series finale aired, Washington took to Instagram to give a shout-out to her Scandal actresses. “I love my #ScandalSisters. #Scandal family is real. #TheFinalScandal,” she captioned a selfie with Lowes, Bellamy Young and Darby Stanchfield.
“We’re super tight,” Lowes said at the event. “I feel like we’ve just been through a lot together, like, Kerry had two babies, I had a baby, we’ve bought homes, we’ve gone through relationships. We talk a lot, but I think maybe my biggest memory is when the three of them came at the same time to meet my son. They came over when he was really young, like a few weeks, and they all came over and spent the whole day. They all took turns holding him and loving on him. It was so beautiful.”
While Lowes has been relying on her girl squad for support, her husband since 2012, Adam Shapiro, has also been super involved in caring for their son, whom they welcomed in October 2017. “Well, Adam, first of all, I hate that there are gender identities because we’re both moms, for sure, it’s such a 50/50 split right now,” she said. “He was just saying, ‘I have to be on the text chain with the babysitter, because she was sending me photos and Adam was like, I need to be on the text chain for those photos.’”
