Marla Maples: Donald Trump Loves Our Daughter, Tiffany, but ‘I Was the Parent’

Reflections. Donald Trump‘s second wife, Marla Maples, who’s currently competing on Dancing With the Stars, opened up to Us Weekly and others on Monday, April 4, about what it was like to raise their daughter, Tiffany, as a single mom.

For Maples, 52, the struggle was finding that balance between work and home. “I always wanted to be there for breakfast,” she mused during week 3 of DWTS’ season 22 at CBS Television City in L.A. “I always wanted to be there for carpool. I wanted to make it for every sporting event, every dance, every play, and wanted to make sure that, no matter what, every night we could have a great meal at home together. She’d do her homework, I’d make dinner, and we just got to snuggle together.”

The California-based actress turned radio host continued: “The truth was, the challenge was being able to balance being a working mom and being there for a child full time. Her daddy loves her, of course, but … I was the parent. I was the parent that was there in the flesh [and] with her all the time.”

However, she has zero regrets. “It was amazing. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world,” she told Us. “I learned the most and it brought me the greatest joy. We’re always there for each other, even tonight. She had her first job interview this morning! She went to New York for her first job interview and we’re both overcoming new fears and stepping into the unknown now, it’s amazing.”

Tiffany, 22, made an appearance on Monday night’s episode of the competition series and added support for her mom on Instagram. “My mom @itsmarlamaples chose #1993 for her #mostmemorableyear,” the real estate scion wrote of the year in which she was born.

Maples’ complicated history with GOP presidential frontrunner Trump once again made headlines this past Sunday, April 3, after the mogul’s first wife, Ivana Trump, gave an incredibly candid interview to the New York Post about their infamous affair.

“She asked to apologize to me in the Daily Mail in London,” Ivana told the paper of Maples. “They asked if I accepted the apology and I said no. Why should I? She broke my marriage!” Maples and Trump were married from 1993 to 1999. (He married his third and current wife, Melania, in 2005.) According to Ivana, the infidelity scandal shattered his chances at the presidency the first time around.

“Probably five years before our divorce, Reagan or somebody brought him a letter and said, ‘You should run for president,’” Ivana, 67, recalled. “So, he was thinking about it. But then … there was the divorce, there was the scandal, and American women loved me and hated him.”

Watch Maples’ segment from Monday above, and tune in to Dancing With the Stars on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
