America Ferrera loves her name, but don’t expect her to name her baby-to-be “after a land mass or an idea.”
“Growing up with the name America is not easy,” she said during the Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday, January 3. “I don’t want to put that on my child because I know what that feels like so I’m going to go with something that is more a name.”
The Superstore actress, 33, and her husband, Ryan Piers Williams, announced on New Year’s Eve that they are expecting their first child together. Ferrera joked that although she steered clear of the alcohol, it was still a fun night.
“I feel good, I feel really good, aside from a completely sober New Year’s Eve,” she told Colbert. “But my dear husband built me a club in the apartment which just means he got lights and a fog machine. I was stone cold sober so it just felt like a junior high party. Everyone else was having a great time.” (The couple got engaged in 2010 and got married the following year.)
Hours after their announcement, Ferrera got together with her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants costars — Alexis Bledel, Amber Tamblyn and Blake Lively — to celebrate.
“Would the traveling pants fit you through all nine months of your pregnancy?” Colbert asked on Wednesday night.
Ferrera quipped: “Do you know what magic means Stephen? Yes they’re magic, they would fit me all times.”
