Finally some good news! Ryan Lochte and his wife, Kayla Rae Reid, are expecting their second child. The Olympic swimmer announced the happy news on Instagram.
“BOOM!!!” Lochte, 34, wrote in the post on Friday, November 30, sharing a photo of himself posing with his family and holding a sonogram image. ”Baby number 2!”
He added, “Can’t wait to bring my fam of 4 to #tokyo2020,” referencing the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
“#blessed #Lochte4 #faimlyjustgotbigger,” Lochte tagged the caption.
Lochte and Reid, 27, married in a courthouse ceremony in January and then exchanged vows again in front of family and friends in September. Their first child, son Caiden Zane, was born in June 2017.
The news caps off a roller coaster year for the six-time gold medalist. In October, Lochte announced he’d be seeking treatment for a “serious” alcohol addiction one night after he was involved in a car crash.
“Ryan has been battling from alcohol addiction for many years and unfortunately it has become a destructive pattern for him,” his agent told Us Weekly in a statement at the time. “He has acknowledged that he needs professional assistance to overcome his problem and will be getting help immediately. Ryan knows that conquering this disease now is a must for him to avoid making future poor decisions, to be the best husband and father he can be, and if he wants to achieve his goal to return to dominance in the pool in his 5th Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.”
And in July, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency issued the athlete a 14-month suspension from competitive swimming because of an IV injection he received two months prior. Lochte claimed he had injected himself with B-complex vitamins to avoid catching his wife and son’s illness. The suspension meant he’d have to sit out the 2018 National Championships and the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships and will not be able to partake in the 2019 World Championships.
