Mazel tov, Steve Martin! After Page Six reported (via sources) that the 67-year-old actor, author and musician recently became a first-time dad with wife Anne Stringfield, his rep confirms the happy news to Us Weekly. "We can confirm that Steve Martin and his wife are new parents and recently welcomed a child," the rep tells Us in a statement.
The once-divorced Planes, Trains and Automobiles actor married former New Yorker staffer Stringfield, 41, in 2007 in a surprise, private ceremony. A source told Page Six that the spouses are "thrilled" and "worked hard to have the baby."
A resolutely private star, Martin made extremely cryptic potential references to his bundle of joy to his 3.7 million followers on Twitter over the past few days. "My recent dada Tweet was admired by the artistic community," he wrote Feb. 11, also nodding to the quirky art movement. Slightly more telling? The tweet which read "Coo coo, cutsy wootsy, footsy pie."
Two days earlier, on Feb. 9, a female fan jokingly gushed, "Steve would you bear my children please? :-)" Martin's response about kids? "Can't stand 'em"
Martin has another baby to crow about this spring: An accomplished five-string banjo player, Martin has collaborated with "What I Am" singer Edie Brickell on a new album, Love Has Come For You, which Rounder Records will release on April 23.
