Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott’s children were cyberbullied in January, and the chef revealed how his 12-year-old son, Liam, reacted to the negative comments.
“Liam picked it up,” the former Chopped Canada host, 52, admitted on his “Daddy Issues” podcast with Nicky Paris and Adam Hunter. “He said, ‘Dad, am I obese?’ I said, ‘Look buddy — there’s some sick people in the world … and they need to say bad things about people.’”
He went on to tell the preteen, “‘Think about it, son. You have a busy life. You have school, you got sports. Do you think you have time to go on Instagram, scroll through the people that you’re following, and make a negative comment about somebody?’ I said, ‘No, you don’t. You don’t, and if you did, you’d fill your time with something else. So think about how sick these people are that they have to do that.’”
McDermott, who also shares Stella, 11, Hattie, 7, Finn, 6, and Beau, 2, with the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum, 46, spoke out against the body-shamers himself in January.
“I am absolutely horrified and disgusted by the comments being left about my children,” he commented on Spelling’s post at the time, where many had criticized his brood’s appearance. “Body shaming and bullying my children??!! What is wrong with you people??!!”
His wife told Us Weekly exclusively the following month, “Celebrities have feelings and then when you cross a line and you go after children … that is just wrong and shame on you. The thing that I hate too are these internet cowboys who have these made-up titles that they hide behind and … have private accounts. You want something, you have something to say, say it to my face, and tell me who you are.”
