“There is no ‘right way,’” the former professional soccer player, 39, captioned family photos via Instagram on Friday, August 28. “Life, love, family and career take many forms. I know the decision Eva and I made to be a ‘different’ type of family, and me once again stepping away from a ‘dream job’ to pursue other passions, evokes confusion or even criticism. The truth is we’ve never been happier because we’ve found ‘our way.’”
The Georgia native, who shares Marlowe, 6, Major, 3, and Mateo, 5 months, with the actress, 35, explained, “Our kids now see a genuine version of parents who love them, love each other and most importantly love themselves. So in these challenging times I only offer this simple suggestion: Find you, and be it.”
“We are committed to, and excited about, raising our three beautiful children as close friends and deep partners, and we have the utmost respect for one another,” the former couple captioned a joint statement at the time.
“He lives out of state from me and the kids so it was either he isolates on his own and not see the kids for who knows how long or we isolate together,” the New York native explained during an April Instagram Live video. “It’s been great, surprisingly, [but] it’s obviously had its moments.”
That same month, the sports analyst called their quarantine “kind of amazing,” explaining, “My ex and I are spending some really good time with the kids. … Basically, [we] just fast-forwarded through a year of therapy and getting to an amazing place in three weeks because now we have to live together.
