It’s been a busy first few days, to say the least. Alec Baldwin returned to Saturday Night Live as President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday, November 19, and had a steady stream of visitors at his beck and call.
Kate McKinnon, who famously played Hillary Clinton throughout the campaign season, traded one blonde wig for another to portray Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway.
“Kellyanne, can I just say something?” Baldwin-as-Trump said at the start of the skit. “I just want to thank you for all you’ve done. I wouldn’t be president without you.”
“I think about that every day,” McKinnon-as-Conway replied.
From there, Baldwin’s Trump got a rude awakening as one after another, his visitors remind him how much time and work his job will take.
At one point, after briefly meeting with a top general about his “secret” military plan, he googled “What is ISIS” in a panic. Later, after a West Virginian campaign chair (Bobby Moynihan) excitedly talked about how Trump promised to restore all his state’s jobs, Baldwin-as-Trump made a pained face. “Every single one?”
Even Jason Sudeikis made an appearance as Mitt Romney in a nod to the real-life pair’s meeting on Saturday. But after shaking hand for as awkwardly long as possible, both Baldwin’s Trump and Sudeikis’ Romney agreed working together just “isn’t going to work, is it?”
But perhaps the best visitor was Beck Bennett’s Mike Pence, who sashayed into the room with a smug look on his face as Baldwin-as-Trump asked him how Hamilton was.
“It was good,” Bennett-as-Pence replied. “I got a free lecture.” (On Friday evening, the real-life Vice President-elect was booed at a New York showing of the hit musical and then addressed directly by the cast at curtain call.)
When Bennett’s Pence started to list off all the things that Trump had promised — deport 11 million immigrants, get rid of Obamacare, and lock Hillary Clinton up — Trump panicked and tried to “scrap” all of it.
“Mike, you’re going to do everything, right?” Baldwin-as-Trump asked.
“Yes, sir,” Bennett’s Pence replied.
Trump later tweeted about the portrayal of him on the hit sketch comedy show, and didn’t seem to be quite so amused.
