Not so fast. The officer who arrested Amber Heard for domestic violence in 2009 just so happens to be an openly gay woman. TMZ revealed the identity of Beverly Leonard after Heard’s ex-girlfriend Tasya van Ree, who was involved in the incident, claimed in a statement shared with Us Weekly on Wednesday, June 8, that the officers were “homophobic” with “misogynistic attitudes.”
Leonard, who saw TMZ’s story, responded on her Facebook page on Thursday, June 9.
“I’m not sure who of you leaked to TMZ my pics but I wanted to personally thank you for setting the record straight…pun intended,” the retired officer wrote. “I am so not homophobic or mysoginistic! The arrest was made because an assault occurred (I witnessed it) and the parties were in a domestic relationship. PS…if you got paid, I want a cut.”
As previously reported by Us, Heard, 30, was booked for misdemeanor violence after allegedly grabbing van Ree’s arm during an altercation at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on September 14, 2009. The incident resurfaced amid the Danish Girl actress’ current legal battle against estranged husband Johnny Depp. After filing for divorce from the Pirates of the Caribbean actor on May 23 after 15 months of marriage, Heard was granted a restraining order days later after she claimed that Depp, 53, physically abused her during their relationship.
Depp’s lawyer has since denied the allegations, claiming that Heard is simply trying to secure a financial gain in their divorce.
