While Colton Underwood’s love life is playing out on television for all to see, the Bachelor is currently keeping his mouth shut on whether he’s found his soulmate — and whether viewers will watch him get down on one knee during the season 23 finale.

“I don’t know if I’m engaged yet,” the former NFL pro, 27, joked during an interview with E! on Monday, February 11. “I tune in every Monday night almost nervous to see if that’s the night.”

On a more serious note, Underwood explained why he isn’t keen on disclosing that information before the end of the season. “One, I wouldn’t want to spoil it for people,” he said. “But two, there’s been a lot of ups and downs and I sort of want to take the viewers and everybody on that ride with me. And I wouldn’t want to spoil anything for anybody.”

The reality star also opened up about the cringeworthy dates that have been — and continue to — play out on the hit ABC dating show.

“There’s always awkward moments. I wouldn’t say there’s any fully awkward dates. … There’s going to always be those awkward moments and it’s all about how you handle it,” Underwood told E! “I, personally, I don’t mind awkward moments. I don’t mind sitting in awkward silence or staring at somebody when we know it’s awkward, just to see how they react.”

The Indiana native said that it gives him more insight into a woman. “You really get to see that side of their personality. And for me, that was one thing that I wanted coming out of this, I wanted to really get an understanding of who they are as a person,” he added. “So, seeing them in an awkward moment, seeing them in a happy moment, a sad moment, I think it was really important for me to see how life would be outside of the show.”

Earlier Monday, Underwood took to Twitter to tease episode 6 of his season, tweeting that he’s possibly going to “break up with” five contestants in the most dramatic episode of The Bachelor ever.

Prior to his role as this season’s leading man, Underwood appeared on Becca Kufrin’s season of The Bachelorette where he came in third place and became known for his virgin status. He later appeared on Bachelor in Paradise and had a brief romance with Tia Booth.
