Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have been together for only six months, but he’s already head over heels. The country singer sat down for an interview with Country Countdown USA on Friday, May 20 — and he couldn’t help but gush about the “Misery” songstress.

Earlier this month, Shelton, 39, released “Came Here to Forget,” which is the first single off his newly released 10th studio album, If I’m Honest.

“This is a song I absolutely fell in love with the first time I heard it,” he explained during the radio interview. “[Songwriter] Craig Wiseman was given the task to write a song for me about what had happened to me in my personal life and when I first started seeing Gwen. It’s all in there. The only difference is we didn’t actually meet in a bar.”

As Us Weekly exclusively reported in November, the Voice coach and the No Doubt frontwoman, 46, started dating just months after both of their marriages fell apart. Shelton and Miranda Lambert divorced in July 2015, while Stefani and Gavin Rossdale split the following month.

“At the time, when you go through what I went through with my divorce, you never know when it’s the right time to step out and say, 'I’ve started seeing someone,'” Shelton explained. “But what I found out — because it wasn’t someone from my hometown, it was Gwen Stefani that I was beginning to have this relationship with — there was no hiding it. If I glance her way, it’s the cover of magazines. If I could have kept my personal life private, I would have. Since I can’t, I might as well let people in on the truth.”

The TV personality added that both he and the “Make Me Like You” singer both had “some trust issues” coming out of their relationships, which is why they bonded and, eventually, recorded a duet titled “Go Ahead and Break My Heart.”

“Of all the people, she was the last person I expected to step out of the crowd and be the one to have my back, and be there and be the shoulder and be the one to fight that fight with me, getting back on my feet. And out of nowhere, there she was,” he gushed.

Just one day earlier, Shelton sat down with Beats 1 on Apple Music, where he premiered some of his new tracks in addition to playing some of Stefani’s music. “I don’t know how I get in the world [where] I can get an opportunity to host an hour on Beats 1 and not play some music from my girlfriend. That’s a good way to end up in the doghouse,” he joked.

Later in the interview, he explained that he never realized how many hit songs his love had. “One day I was driving down the road and [‘The Sweet Escape’] came on, and Gwen was in the car with me and the intro started and I was like, ‘What is this? I know this song. I love this song,’ and she said, ‘That's … that’s my song!’”

The couple are set to perform their duet at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 22. While rehearsing the song on Saturday, Stefani excitedly shared a sneak peek on Snapchat as her beau ran through a soundcheck.
