Brad Pitt found out about estranged wife Angelina Jolie’s divorce filing one day before Us Weekly confirmed the shocking news on Tuesday, September 20.
“Brad only found out about the divorce decision yesterday,” an insider close to the World War Z actor, 52, tells Us.
According to the source, Pitt, Jolie and their kids had plans to fly to London together this upcoming Friday, September 23. However, the trip was canceled on Monday, the insider says.
As previously reported, the Maleficent star, 41, filed divorce documents Monday, September 19, citing irreconcilable differences. Jolie is requesting physical custody of their six children, Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8. The divorce filings indicate that she requested that Pitt receive joint legal custody. She is not asking for spousal support.
Jolie’s rep issued a statement to Us on Tuesday regarding her decision to call it quits with the eternal heartthrob. “Angelina Jolie Pitt has filed for dissolution of the marriage,” the statement read. “This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting at this time and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time.”
A source previously told Us that the A-list pair frequently fought over their different parenting styles, politics and scheduling. “[Jolie] did try to make it work, but her kids come first and she couldn’t let them see Mommy and Daddy like this,” the insider explained. “The fighting got worse and they disagreed a lot about parenting and a lot of things.”
Jolie and Pitt wed on August 23, 2014, in Southern France. They first hit it off when they met on the 2004 set of their film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, when the Fight Club actor was still married to Jennifer Aniston. He and the Friends alum, 47, announced the end of their five-year union in January 2005. Months later, Jolie and Pitt went public with their romance.
