Hundreds of fans joined Bobby Brown’s siblings Tommy, Tina, and Leolah Brown at a Shining a Light for Healing vigil in Georgia on Monday, Feb. 9, to pray for the singer’s daughter Bobbi Kristina, who has been in a coma for ten days.
The daughter of the late Whitney Houston was found facedown in a bathtub on Saturday, Jan. 31, and has been in a medically induced coma ever since.
Those gathered for the prayer vigil took comfort in the rainbow that appeared in the sky over Riverdale Town Center's amphitheater as people arrived, feeling that "God is hearing our prayers," as they came together to ask for Bobbi Kristina's return to health.
Bobbi Kristina’s uncle Tommy, and aunts Tina and Leolah Brown were seated on the stage and watched the whole event with solemn faces, Tina looking devastated and crying for much of the service.
Houston’s hit songs played before the service began and a variety of speakers, from pastors, to people who had experienced miracles from god, and the local Mayor, spoke, read prayers and sang hymns.
"Praise the Lord everyone," Mayor Evelyn Wynn Dixon of Riverdale said. "Forget that Bobby and Whitney are renowned artists. They are people and they hurt and bleed like us. It's hard looking a child on a ventilator, what to do. If you take her off, she coulda lived. No one knows what to do. On behalf of the city council, we got your back with prayers with whatever you do. Whatever troubles that baby had had, whether she never got over her mama, we pray for her."
Tommy Brown thanked supporters for coming. "I know she thanks all of y’all, Continue to pray for us all. Remember when you wake up we should all pray for each other," he said.
"We aren't here just to yell, 'Wake Up!'" Pastor Dukes added. "Because God is holding her right now, whether she wakes up her not, God has her and she's going to be good either way."
The ceremony was brought to a close with a prayer for Bobbi Kristina. As a distraught Tina Brown made her exit from the venue she told Us Weekly, "We’re just continuing to pray.”
One audience member, Raquel Michaels, 25, a Riverdale resident and beautician, was eager to attend the vigil tonight to do all she can to support the family.
"I've been such a huge Whitney fan since I was 6 years old and I've watched Bobbi grow up and I love her light," she told Us. "She has such an amazing sparkle, just like her momma. I follow her on Instagram and I loved her pictures. I wanted to come and join everyone in prayers for Bobbi Kristina. I have been praying for her everyday and hope she makes a recovery."
